Hardy Memorial honors Vermilion Parish’s fallen officers

It is never an easy day, but for the family and friends of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, it is an important day.
Many joined Friday morning at the Abbeville Police Department for the John “Dooley” Hardy Memorial. The service is held each year by the Fraternal Order of Police John “Dooley” Hardy Memorial Lodge 48 to honor fallen officers from Vermilion Parish.

Abbeville Professional Firefighters Association Local 3810 is making sure that families have a Merry Christmas.

Tradition of giving

On Saturday, Dec. 22, the Abbeville Professional Firefighters Association Local 3810 assembled and delivered food baskets for pre-selected families that need a little assistance with food over the holiday period.
The PFFA of Abbeville is hoping to start a new tradition this holiday season with this project.
Families are selected for the program through referrals from a number of community-based organizations and agencies. This year, Abbeville firefighters with the help of SUPER ONE Foods and their amazing team, are planning to distribute about 10 baskets to those in need.

Three from Vermilion finish UL Lafayette with 4.0

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette awarded degree’s to more than 1,200 degrees last Friday.
Nine students were recognized as summa cum laude graduates for achieving perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Among those nine, three are from Vermilion Parish. They are:
• Catherine Louise Domingues, who majored in nursing, received a bachelor’s degree from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions.
• Anh The Le, a petroleum engineering major, received a bachelor’s degree from the College of Engineering.

Vermilion Parish helps foster children

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) hosted their first Christmas Party Project for children and families in the program on Friday; a project that took two months to organize with hopes to grow.
Stacey Mire, supervisor for the Department of Children and Family Services, wanted to do more in her career in helping foster children and families. After realizing that Lafayette had several community and church support, she wanted to do the same for Vermilion Parish.
