Debris pick up in Abbeville questioned, process explained

When Councilman Francis Touchet Jr. brought up trash and debris pickup during Tuesday’s Abbeville City Council meeting, the concern didn’t center around whether items placed by the side of the road would eventually get picked up.
Instead, Touchet said his question, one that he has received from several of his constituents, is about the pickup schedule.

New Iberia man arrested after stabbing death in Abbeville

A man wanted in connection to a stabbing death in Abbeville Thursday afternoon is now behind bars.
Abbeville Chief of Police Bill Spearman said officers arrested Nicholas Marquis Wilson, 36, of New Iberia, after locating him in Jeanerette around 10 p.m. on Thursday. Members of the Jeanerette Police Department, New Iberia Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police assisted in the case.
Officers booked Wilson into to Vermilion Parish Correction Center just before noon on Friday. Wilson faces a Second-degree Murder Charge. His bond has been set at $250,000.

Beth B. Melebeck named as President of Bank of Erath

Beth B. Melebeck has been named as President of the Bank of Erath and Bank of Erath Holding Company effective July 1, 2018. The announcement was made by Paul G. Moresi, Jr., the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer.
A lifelong native of Abbeville and an employee of the Bank for over 35 years, she has served with distinction as Executive Vice President for the last 17 years, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Bank since 2002.

Dr. Sonya Louviere

Louviere named new Rost Middle principal

KAPLAN — When the bell rings to begin the 2018-19 school year, Dr. Sonya Louviere will be the new principal at Rene Rost Middle School. “Summer is in full swing,” said Louviere, “but I would like to take the time to express how honored and excited I am to join the Rene Rost Middle School family and Kaplan community.
“The first year will be a year of learning and growing together.”
The new RMS princpial brings with her 25 years of experience in education. She began her career in Acadia Parish at Church Point Elementary, before moving to Lafayette Parish.
