Lt. Col. Desormeaux

Lt. Col. Desormeaux named Grand Marshal of Cattle Festival Parade

Lt. Col. Scott J. Desormeaux will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 69th Annual Louisiana Cattle Festival’s Grand Parade.
The Louisiana Cattle Festival will be held Oct. 13 through Oct. 15 in Abbeville. The Parade will begin at 1 p.m. in Abbeville.
Lt. Col. Desormeaux started his military career as an enlisted infantryman in the United States Marine Corps. He was commissioned as an officer into the Army through the Northeast Louisiana University (NLU) ROTC program in 1994.

Blue Bouillion is the Cattleman of the Year.

Boullion named Cattleman of the Year

Blue Boullion of Kaplan is the 2017 Cattle Festival Cattleman of the Year.
The 69th Louisiana Cattle Festival will take place Oct. 13-15 in downtown Abbeville.
Boullion will be among those recognized at this year’s Honoree Banquet at Magdalen Place in Abbeville, Thursday evening, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. Tickets are available, for $15 each, from any festival member or by calling (337) 652-0646.

Derrick Mitchell indicted for death of Paul Rice

Derrick Mitchell has been indicted for the death of Paul Rice.
A Grand Jury indicted Mitchell on Monday for first-degree murder. Mitchell is accused of shooting and killing Rice on July 5, 2012. Rice was shot at the corner of Bailey Street and Felicity Street in Abbeville.
According to a warrant, Mitchell is currently being held in the LaSalle Parish Jail. Mitchell had previously been indicted on two other shooting deaths in Abbeville.

Simone Cavalier - LA Cattle Festival 2017 Festival Ambassador

The Louisiana Cattle Festival 2017 Festival Ambassador is Mrs. Simone Cavalier.
Simone is a native and current resident of Abbeville. Simone is married to her high school sweetheart, Francis Cavalier, and together have a 2 year old son named Bentley. Simone is a graduate of Abbeville High School, as well as a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Simone is currently employed by Sensible Meals in which she pilots the company’s ambassadors as the top leading Nutrition Coach.

Erath High Homecoming Court

Erath High 2017 Homecoming Court—Erath High will play Berwick tonight in the annual Homecoming Game. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. The presentation of the court will take place at 6:15 p.m. The queen will be announced at the game that night.
