Former Kaplan Chief of Police Boyd Adams arrested on four felonies

KAPLAN — Former Kaplan Chief of Police Boyd Adams found himself behind bars in his old department this week.
Kaplan Chief of Police Joshua Hardy confirmed that the former chief had been booked on four felonies, including filing false public records, public intimidation or retaliation, threatening a public official and false impersonation of a public official.
Officers arrested Adams at his home in Kaplan and booked him into the Kaplan City Jail. Hardy said Thursday morning that Adams left the jail on an $18,500 bond.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office books two men in connection to body found in canal; victim identified as Hector Velasquez Vargas

Nearly three weeks after the discovery of a body in a canal south of Kaplan, an investigation by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of two men.
According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, on Friday, April 26, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m., a body was located floating in a canal south of West Liberty Farm Road, south of Kaplan, by a local farmer.
Upon arrival of patrol and detectives, a male subject located floating in a canal was recovered and sent to Vermilion Parish Forensics for autopsy and manner of death.

Abbeville teen went into church to allegedly scare parishioners, get his girlfriend,then head to Texas

Abbeville Police Mike Hardy stated that the 16-year-old who was apprehended for bringing a gun into St. Mary Magdalen Church during a Holy Communion Mass did not have any intentions of harming anyone.
Hardy was quoted in the Advocate newspaper saying the teen told police that his girlfriend was inside the church. He planned to intimidate parishioners before he ran away with his girlfriend to Texas, reported the Advocate.
The teen was not allowed to carry out his plan, thanks to a handful of parishioners who were outside of the church and saw the teen enter the church.
