22nd Daylily Festival and Garden Show set for Saturday in Abbeville

The 22nd Daylily Festival and Garden Show will be held in Magdalen Square on Saturday, June 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
The festival is presented by Abbeville Main Street and the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce. Although daylilies are the festival’s feature flower, all gardening will be highlighted this Saturday.

Kaplan Mayor announces planned outage for Friday morning; repairs will be made to Abshire Addition electrical breaker

KAPLAN — The City of Kaplan will have a planned electrical outage this Friday morning May 31, 2024 beginning at 6 a.m.
Mayor Mike Kloesel said the outage is necessary so that workers can make repair the city’s Abshire Addition electrical breaker.
“Our electrical department will work as quickly and safely as possible,” Kloesel said. “Please know that this area will be without power for three to four hours while we make these necessary repairs.”

Officer arrests man who allegedly robbed Wendy’s in Abbeville

A man who said he wanted to return money to Wendy’s in Abbeville has been arrested for allegedly stealing the cash in the first place.
On Monday, May 27, at approximately 10:50 p.m., the Abbeville Police Department (APD) responded to a call of Simple Robbery at Wendy’s located at 2307 Veterans Memorial Dr.
The complainant advised that a white male had robbed them by grabbing a handful of money out of the register. The suspect then ran out of the door.

Boater found stranded in Vermilion Bay

Search and rescue teams successfully completed a rescue mission on May 22 in Vermilion Parish.
Search and rescue teams from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), St. Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s Office (SPSO), Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office (IPSO), Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO), Vermilion Parish Constable’s Office, and the U.S. Coast Guard were alerted around 3:15 a.m. from family members on May 22 about an overdue boater in Vermilion Parish.

‘Lucky catch’ comment leads to Comeaux Park incident in Abbeville

An incident occurred on Wednesday night at Luquette Baseball Field at A.A. Comeaux Park, leading Abbeville Mayor Roslyn White to issue a statement on the City of Abbeville’s Facebook page and the Abbeville Police Department to get involved.
At an eight-year-old end-of-the-season QSA baseball game, two adults began arguing after one adult male commented, “Lucky catch.”
That comment was overheard by an adult female related to the boy who made the catch. 
“No, that’s talent,” said the female to the male.
