Acadian Ambulance, Abbeville General Hospital hosting CPR training event in Erath

ERATH — Acadian Ambulance and Abbeville General Hospital are hosting two free community CPR training sessions in Erath on Saturday, June 29.
The sessions will be held at the Erath Community Center, located at 100 City Park Dr. in Erath. The first session will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the second taking place from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Two women from Kaplan are set to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 29 as part of Lauren Daigle’s choir.
Laura Humble and Aneliese Hebert, who grew up just miles apart, will be lending their voices to this prestigious event, sponsored by "True North Presents."

End of an era: Couvillon, Frith bid farewell to Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office

Sheriff Michael A. Couvillon will retire from the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office after over 42 years of service, and Chief Deputy Colonel Kirk J Frith will retire after 40 years of service. 
Both will exit the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office at midnight on June 30, with a combined total of 82 years of service. 
While working in law enforcement for over 40 years is a lifelong achievement for both men, it is remarkable that both served all their years at a single agency in their home parish, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Vermilion Parish Police Jury will ask voters to vote again on 2 defeated tax renewals

At Wednesday night’s police jury meeting, the jurors agreed e to ask Vermilion Parish voters to vote for two renewals that the parish voters defeated earlier in the year.
The jury voted to put two failed tax renewals back on the ballot for the Nov. 5, 2024 election.
On April 27, a parish-wide preposition renewal was defeated 1,106 votes to 1,003 votes. The 3.26 mill renewal would have collected around $1.1 million for the year for a period of 10 years.

Spike in public records requests at Abbeville City Hall leads to city council reviewing public records policy

Due to a sudden surge in public records requests, the city of Abbeville is considering revising its policy for public records requests.
During Tuesday night’s city council meeting, the council had planned to propose changes to the public records request process. However, they decided to postpone the idea after receiving public comments and asking questions about the proposed changes.
Here are the following changes to the public records requests the city is considering:
• Reducing the cost per paper copy from $1 to 25 cents.
