There is a new alert system available to residents in Vermilion Parish.

New alert system launched for Vermilion Parish residents

The Vermilion Parish Police Jury and the Vermilion Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness have introduced a new alert system known as Rave, designed to keep residents informed and safe in a hurricane or other emergencies requiring immediate attention. This system, similar to Nixle, which was the old system, is also used by different government agencies on a larger scale, including the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, providing you with real-time updates.

The Old Abbeville Bridge

DOTD announces alternate lane closures on Thursday for bridge in downtown Abbeville

Drivers in Abbeville should be aware of work that will be done on the Old Abbeville Bridge in downtown on Thursday.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the La. Hwy. 14 Business at the Old Abbeville Bridge will have alternating lane closures on Thursday, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., weather permitting.
The lane closures are necessary to allow crews to perform routine bridge maintenance. The road will be open to regular traffic with 12-foot lane restrictions on oversized loads passing through the work zone.

Abbeville Community Master Plan Open House events set for Saturday, June 22

A pair of Abbeville Community Master Plan Open House events are set for Saturday, June 22.
The first will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at A.A. Comeaux Park. The second will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at J.H. Williams Middle School.
According to Mayor Roslyn Whit, these meetings will focus on developing city-wide strategies. The meetings will also feature design charrette activities, at J.H. Williams they will focus on the Lyman Street area and at A.A. Comeaux they will focus on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive area.

Lafitte Drive-In Park, including the new fishing pier, is once again open to the public.

Abbeville announces reopening of Lafitte Drive-In Park, new fishing pier ready for use

After a few months of being closed for improvements, including construction of the new fishing pier, Lafitte Drive-In Park is once again open to the public.
The city of Abbeville reopened the park, located at 117 N. John Hardy Dr. on Thursday morning.
Current hours of operation are daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The walking trail, fishing pond and fishing pier with the new enhanced accessibility features will be available during these hours.
Late last year, the park closed during the construction of the new fishing pier.
