Drake LeJeune heads down field for the end zone in the first quarter. LeJeune had three touchdowns in the first half for Kaplan.

Kaplan has easy time against Crowley

KAPLAN - If you decided to stop at the concession stand right when the Kaplan game began, the odds are you may have missed Kaplan’s first touchdown.
The Pirates scored the first three times the offense touched the football and they were leading 22-0 by the end of the first period.
When the game ended, Kaplan had a 59-13 win over Crowley on Friday.
“I saw some positive things,” said KHS head coach Steph Lotief. “We played with enthusiams. I will go back and look at the film to see other positive things we did.”
The Pirates ran the ball well and finished with 228 yards rushing.
Caden Campisi had eight carries, for 136 yards and he scored two touchdowns. Campisi’s TDs were for 35 yard and 54 yard runs.
Drake LeJeune put the Pirates ahead in the first quarter with three TD runs of 27 yards, 36 yards and 26 yards.
He averaged 25 yards a carry in the game. LeJeune had five carries and rushed for 101 yards and three scores.
While the ground game was working, the defense decided they wanted to get into the scoring act.
Defensive back Cooper Guidry jumped up in the air at midfield and came down with a pick six. He intercepted the ball and ran it back 47 yards for a touchdown.
Still in the same quarter, Hayes Abshire, playing defensive back, also wanted to score a touchdown. With 20 seconds before half, Abshire picked off a pass and he ran it back 65 yards for a touchdown.
The Pirates had two pick six plays in the second quarter.
“It is about time. We have been waiting on our defense to score and tonight they did,” said Lotief.
You also know things were going Kaplan’s way when they made a 31 yard field goal by kicker Britt Bass. Bass also kicked two extra points, Guidry joined the kicking show because he kicked an extra point.

The Pirates will put their 15-year winning streak over Abbeville on the line against the Wildcats Friday in Abbeville.

Erath falls short of pulling off upset against St. Martinville

ERATH – Down two scores at halftime, the Erath Bobcats rallied in the second half and took a four-point lead over District 6-3A rival, and district leading, St. Martinville Senior High Friday night during homecoming at EHS.
A couple of big plays, including a 50-yard touchdown run from Trent Bristo and a field goal from Dylan Duhon, pushed the Bobcats to a 28-24 lead with just about two minutes left in the third quarter.
But in the end, SMSH was able to get a couple of big plays of their own to retake the lead and hold on to a 36-28 win, which left EHS coach Eric LeBlanc lamenting what could have been.
“What’s haunting is that we let them score right before halftime, which gave them a two-score lead,” LeBlanc said. “If we don’t let them score, maybe we can hold onto the lead and come out with a win.
“This was our game to stay in the battle for the district title. We played well. We just allowed too many mental mistakes and let them into the game.”
With the loss, Erath fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the district and in a precarious spot.
“We have to win out and finish the season 3-4 to have a chance at the playoffs,” LeBlanc said.
And while Friday’s loss was disheartening, LeBlanc saw something from his team that gave him hope for the final two games of the season.
“We finally started playing like we were capable of playing,” the EHS coach said. “We knew they were talented and quick and were going to try to beat us deep, but we played hard and tough on defense and were able to stop some of their big plays.
“We didn’t stop enough of them, but we showed that we could play with them, which is only going to help us in the games to come.”
SMSH coach Vince Derouen, whose team improved to 5-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the district. Also said that his team made some mistakes that let Erath back into the game when they were down by two scores, but they also corrected their mistakes and could retake the lead and hold on for the win.
It was disappointing to see us hold a big lead and then give it up,” Derouen said. “But we quit making mistakes and we were able to correct things and make a couple of plays both on offense and defense.”
SMSH quarterback Tanner Harrison’s touchdown run in the fourth quarter after Erath took the lead in the third quarter, which was the spark for the Tigers.
“He just makes plays for us,” Derouen said. “That’s what he does. He makes plays when we need him to, and tonight we needed him to.”
Logan Lemaire had two touchdowns for Erath while quarterback Lynkon Romero threw a touchdown pass in the losing effort.

Drew Lege has now thrown for a career 8,000 yards for VC.

VC quarterback throws for 506 yards and seven touchdowns

He now has thrown for 8,000 yards

CENTERVILLE - Who throws for 500 yards in a football game? Most high school quarterbacks are thrilled if they throw for 500 yards in a season.
On Friday, VC’s four-year starting quarterback Drew Lege went where no quarterback in the parish probably ever gone. Lege threw for a VC school record, 506 yards, and seven touchdowns against Centerville on the road.
Before Friday, Lege’s single-game high was 415 yards thrown his sophomore season.
VC cruised to a 55-20 win over Centerville to improve to 5-0 with two games remaining in the regular season.
With the 500-yard performance, Lege now has 1,769 yards passing on the year. In four years, Lege has throw for 8,052 yards, which no parish quarterback has ever done.
His completion percentage was off the chart. He completed 20 for 25 passes and he threw no interceptions for an 80 percent completion percentage.
Lege threw to eight different receivers, and he even had a catch of his own. On a trick play, Mikie Bazar threw Lege a pass for only six yards.
Here are the receivers who caught Lege’s passes on Friday. John Robert Allums led with six catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. The rest of the receivers are Bazar (2-115-1 TD), Saul Dartez (4-94-2), JP Summers (3-71-0), Travin Moore Jr. (1-63), Matthew Derouen (2-59), Ashton Belaire (1-12) and Jake Lege (1-4).
The Eagles fell behind 8-0 the first two minutes into the game. Because of that, the Eagles came out throwing the football.
On VC’s first series of downs, Lege completed two out of three passes and the second completion was a 37-yard touchdown pass to Dartez. Allums nailed the extra point, and VC led 8-7.
On VC’s next possession, Lege threw an incompletion and then hit Moore for a 63-yard touchdown pass, and VC led 13-6.
So, six minutes into the game, Lege had completed three out of five passes for 112 yards. Two of those three completions were for touchdowns.
At the start of the second quarter, Lege completed two passes, and one was for a 73-yard TD to Bazar.
So, let’s do the math.
Three out of Lege’s first seven completions in the game were for touchdowns.
Before half, VC scored again, and Lege was 3-for-3 throwing the football, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Derouen.
At halftime. VC led 34-8. It was not much better for Centerville in the second half.
The Eagles scored 21 points in the third period.
The Eagles did run the football. They would normally run on first down, gain a couple of yards, and then let the passing game take over.
Rushing, Joshua Sagrera had the most carries in the game with 4 for 30 yards. Others who carried the pigskin were Summers (1-11), Bowen Johnson (1-1) and Dylan Johnson (1- (-1)).
