TWO ARRESTED FOR AUGUST HOUSE FIRE in Vermilion Parish

VERMILION PARISH — Two men have been arrested for conspiring to burn down a house belonging to one of their relatives back in August.
James Mire, 69 of Sulphur, was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail on Oct. 29 on one count of Conspiracy to Commit Arson With the Intent to Defraud.
Leon Fava, 43 of Lafayette, was booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on October 28 on one count of Simple Arson. Fava faces a charge of Conspiracy to Commit Arson With Intent to Defraud in Calcasieu Parish.

Pillette rants about Puyau showing up for work

In a special school board meeting that was called on Tuesday, school board member Kibbie Pillette closed the meeting with a rant about why Superintendent Jerome Puyau is still going to work when the board voted to put him on paid leave.
Back in August, the school board voted to put Puyau on paid leave while an outside law firm investigates Puyau.
That law firm has been investigating Puyau since August, and Puyau has not missed a day of work since being told not to go to work or speak to school employees.

Al Berard Memorial Fund Kicks Off Annual Fundraising Campaign

Al Berard Memorial Fund, a fund of Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA), launched its annual fundraising campaign for 2019.
There are a variety of sponsorship levels that range from $2500 to $250. All donations to the Al Berard Memorial Fund are tax deductible and should be made before December 31. You can view the sponsorship levels and descriptions online at www.cfacadiana.org/alberard.

‘Drop Box’ now option to dispose of unused medication

For the past several years the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Department has taken part in the DEA’s drug take back program.
This program was conducted twice a year and allowed persons from around the parish to bring in unused prescription medication to be disposed of in the proper manner, at no cost to them.
