MAURICE — The Village of Maurice is about a month into its new fiscal year, and while considering many aspects are still in recovery mode from the August 2016 floods, the future is starting to show a little brighter.
The Village of Maurice Board of Aldermen, which will meet today at 6 p.m., passed its new budget during last month’s meeting. Maurice’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.

While citations are not regularly being issued to people who are stepping outside of downtown Abbeville restaurants and bars with a drink, city officials are working to make sure that no one is technically in violation of the open container ordinance if they do.

Qualifying closed Friday afternoon, setting up several races for the Nov 6. ballot, while leaving others to take office unopposed.
Wayne Theriot will return as Mayor for the Village of Maurice. Theriot will be sworn in for a third term in January.
There will four people running for three spots on the Maurice Board of Aldermen. Three are signed up to run for Maurice Chief of Police.
