Abbeville receives clean audit; oversight credited

The City of Abbeville has once again received a clean audit.
The City Council recently heard the update of the audit for the fiscal year that ended on Dec. 31, 2016.
Steve Moosa of Darnel, Sikes, Gardes & Frederick provided the update on the report.
“It’s a clean audit,” Moosa said. “Everything is in line with proper accounting standards. The accounting department maintained records, so we had no issue obtaining those records.
“Things were in order.”

ERATH — Gulf Coast Bank is excited to once again be a sponsor of the annual Erath 4th of July Celebration.
Ray Dugal, Branch Manager of Gulf Coast Bank’s Erath branch presented the check to Erath 4th of July Association President Robert Vincent; Leslie Mencacci, Board Secretary; and Lindsay Schexnider, Board Member.
Gulf Coast Bank has played an active role in this local celebration for many years and continues to carry on the proud tradition today.

Vermilion elementary Principals switch schools

Trades happen in the sports world often. But principal trades do not occur very often in the Vermilion Parish school system.
One did take place between two elementary school principals Monday during a special school board meeting.
School superintendent Jerome Puyau released the names of the trade.
Dawn Amy is heading to Meaux Elementary School. In exchange, Meaux Elementary Principal Susan Stephen will be heading east to LeBlanc Elementary, located north of Erath.

Leonard Breaux is the son of Otis Breaux. Leonard now owns the store and goes to work in the store every day.

Breaux’s Grocery operating for 73 years in Vermilion Parish community

LEROY — Breaux’s Grocery is tucked under a canopy of tall trees in the small community of Leroy on LA Hwy. 699.
Across the street is the Catholic Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. There’s a bench on the small porch where patrons can sit back to drink a cup of fresh coffee.
To the left of the door is an improvised community bulletin board. Cards and signs advertise fresh eggs for sale, pecan cracking and shaking, and lawn care.
