Alexa Faulk - Jordan Sonnier announce engagement

Dustin and Tara Faulk of Abbeville are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Alexa Rae Faulk, to Mr. Jordan Matthew Sonnier. He is the son of John Clement Sonnier and the late Monique Arceneaux Sonnier of Erath, La.
The wedding will take place on January 12, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath.
Grandparents of the future bride are Jesse Faulk and the late Carolyn Campbell of Abbeville and Dale and Diane Romero of Erath.
Alexa is a 2014 graduate of Erath High School and a 2017 graduate of Our Lady of the Lake College with a associate’s degree in Science. She is employed by Scott Hollier Physical Therapy.
Grandparents of the prospective groom are Joseph Willis Sonnier and Viola Racca Sonnier of Erath and Jsoeph Keith Arceneaux and Katherine Simon Hotard of Erath.
Jordan is a 2014 graduate of Erath High School and will be graduating this December from UL Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is employed by Metal Shark.

Brenda DesOrmeaux, Foundation honored

Brenda DesOremaux, of Maurice, founder and executive director of The DesOrmeaux Foundation, recently received an award during the Women of Excellence program for excellence in leadership and service in the community.
DesOrmeaux received the honor from the Lafayette Commission on the Needs of Women (LCNW)
According to the LCNW, the 2018 Women of Excellence Award went to DesOrmeaux for her dedication to serving her community and supporting the needs of women through her pro-life ministy.
According to LCNW, “her leadership, outstanding accomplishments & role in improving the quality of life for young girls through The Women’s Center, The St. Marguerite D’Youville Maternity Home and the Baby & Me Boutique were exemplified in the testimony of one of the current residents whose life will be forever changed because of Mrs. Brenda’s devotion to bringing help & hope to those in crisis. The Foundation was established in 1999 and has since saved over 3,000 babies and since the establishment of the Maternity Home, has provided a safe home for more than 200 homeless pregnant women and their children.”

Russell Philip Bouillion

August 8, 1967 ~ October 12, 2018

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Russell Philip Bouillion, 51, who died Friday, October 12, 2018 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at St. Alphonsus Cemetery with Reverend Louis Richard officiating the services.
Russell is survived by his father, J.D. Joseph Bouillion; two sisters, Wendy Menard of Kaplan and Jaime Hebert of Youngsville; nephew, Justin Menard; and niece, Rylee Hebert.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy St. Marie Bouillion; and sister, Katherine Bouillion.
We would like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to owner, Mark Savoie and his amazing staff of StaffNet nurses, Sherrie Jones, Lorraine Romero, Da’Shannon Walker and Samantha Teaser, who gave such amazing care to Russell along with many others over the last 32 years.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Monday, October 15, 2018 from 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM when the procession will depart for the church.

Charles Sonnier will be among the honorees on Nov. 15.

Charles Sonnier honored as Philanthropist of Year

LAFAYETTE – Charles R. Sonnier is the recipient of the 2018 Leaders In Philanthropy Award for Vermilion Parish, an honor presented by Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA) and Hancock Whitney Bank, and sponsored by Gulf Coast Bank and SLEMCO.
He will be recognized during an awards luncheon on Thursday, November 15 at the Cajundome Convention Center. Seats and tables to the event can be purchased online at www.cfacadiana.org/lip.
Sonnier is a lifelong resident of Abbeville. He is a SLI/Tulane Law Graduate and continues his law career of 55 years that began in 1963 in Abbeville. During this time, he served as the First Assistant District Attorney for the 15th Judicial District, Abbeville City Attorney and the founding member of the Sonnier Law Firm.
Consideration for this selection included his significant lifelong participation in numerous community activities. Sonnier has demonstrated passion for sharing by lending his leadership skills to numerous fundraising endeavors, including St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Vermilion and Mount Carmel Catholic schools, UL Lafayette, and Ducks Unlimited.
Sonnier and his wife, Mary Ellen, a 2014 Leaders In Philanthropy honoree, served as co-chairs to raise more than $4 million to renovate St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. He and his siblings also donated the funds to illuminate and enhance the beauty of the historical and iconic Church.
As sole trustee of a small charitable foundation, Sonnier was instrumental in the purchase of additional class rooms for Vermilion Catholic and participated in the ongoing capital building campaign of Mount Carmel.
Sonnier has served as the President and a member of the UL Foundation Board of Trustees for more than 28 years. His dedication to the University is demonstrated by his substantial gifts to the University in the form of an endowed first-generation scholarship in music and an endowed facility fund in music business.
As an avid outdoorsman, he has been a member of the premier conservation group known as Ducks Unlimited. A member for more than 50 years, he has served in the capacity as state chairman, senior vice president for the Southwest Mississippi Flyway, and other National offices in the organization. Sonnier has reached the level of a Diamond Life Sponsor in perpetuity and is the recipient of the Don Doiron Achievement Award. He is also currently serving as an officer and board member of several major business organizations.
Sonnier has been married to Mary Ellen McKay for more than 54 years and has three children and seven grandchildren.
Leaders in Philanthropy Awards are presented annually to outstanding individuals or couples from each of the eight parishes of CFA’s primary service area who have made a philanthropic impact in their communities through substantial charitable contributions to or by attracting substantial contributions for nonprofits, churches or schools.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office are looking for this truck.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office working residential burglaries

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon. on Oct. 10, 2018, the Sheriff’s Office responded to seven residential (kick in) Burglaries in the Abbeville, Kaplan and North Vermilion areas.
The investigation is in the early stages but Sheriff Couvillon says that TVs, hand guns, jewelry and a safe were taken from these burglaries and detectives are actively and
aggressively investigating these crimes.
Sheriff Couvillon says that detectives are currently searching for an older model 2008-2013 white chevy 4-door pickup truck with possible 20-22” chrome rims occupied by four (4) black males which are believed to be responsible for all of these crimes based on evidence recovered from the different crime scenes.
Detectives are coordinating their efforts with the Acadia and Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Offices, as well as the Carencro Police Department in an attempt to identify those individuals responsible for these crimes.
