October 30, 1928 ~ February 25, 2017

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Francis Suire, 88 years, who died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Heart Hospital of Lafayette.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Richard officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Ronald Suire, Matthew Suire, Seth Sonnier, David Suire, Josh LeMaire and Mike Dohrman. Honorary pallbearer will be John Dayries.
He is survived by his sons, Ronald Suire and Matthew Suire and his wife Bridget; daughter, Iris S. Sonnier; grandchildren, Christina Dayries and her husband John, Mitzi Dohrman and her husband Mike, David Francis Suire and his wife Amanda, Dana Suire, Troy Suire, Tania LeMaire and husband Josh, Seth Sonnier, Jacquelyn Suire and significant other Chris Deshotel, Keisha Suire and Mattalyn Suire; and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Verret Suire; son, Peter Suire; parents, Odelion Suire and the former Estalina Stelly; brothers, Annis Suire and Adolph Suire; granddaughter, Brandy Suire; and son-in-law, James Steve Sonnier.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 9:00 AM until 12:45 PM when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 AM. ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. James Church honoring the life of Elta Monteaux Petry, 89 years, who died Monday, February 27, 2017 at Vermilion Health Care Center. She will be laid to rest at Esther Community Cemetery with Reverend Emmanuel Fernandez officiating the services.
She is survived by her son, John Allen Petry and his wife Marsha of Theall; daughters, Glenda Rae Petry Menard and her husband Ronald J. of Nunez, and Dollie Petry Foreman and her husband Christopher of Theall; eight grandchildren, Jonelle Desormeaux, John Allen Petry Jr., Amy Broussard, Ashley Petry, Adam Petry, Jared Petry, Brady Foreman and Shane Foreman; sixteen great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Carl Petry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elrod "Pete" Petry; parents, Emile Monteaux and the former Eve Bourque; son, Henry "Bubby" Petry; three sisters; and seven brothers.

Abbeville—A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Gwendolyn Ann Trahan Ewing, 73 years, who died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at her residence.
She was laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Fr. Michael Richard officiating the services. Pallbearers were Rickey Trahan, Rickey Perry, Mitchell Perry, Kirby Andras, Tyler Andras and Jace Andras. Honorary pallbearers were Jace Peltier, Parker Leger, Dale Bullock and Jody Lasegne.
She is survived by her son, Rickey James Trahan; step-sons, Wilson Ewing, Terry Paul Ewing and Rodney Ewing; daughters, Selina Perry and her husband Rickey, Celeste Andras and her husband Kirby; step-daughter, Christine Ewing; brother, Rusty Trahan and his wife Judy; sisters, Judy Mouton and her husband Glenn, and Shelly Tippy; grandchildren, Shantell Pellerin, Riana Trahan, Mistie Perry and companion Jody Lasseigne, Mitchell Perry, Brittni Andras Bullock and her husband Dale, Tyler Andras and his wife Janna, and Jace Andras; great-grandchildren, Jace Peltier and Parker Leger; and step-great-grandchildren, Erin Lasseigne and Jada Lasseigne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston Trahan and the former Gladys Bergeron; husbands, Murphy Ewing and Leroy Trahan; and sisters, Verline Trahan Broussard, Joyce Granger Dantin and Sylvia Trahan Bunn.

Evelyn Marie Broussard

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 27, 2017 in Delhomme Funeral Home of Maurice for Mrs. Evelyn "Bird" Marie Broussard, 82, who passed away on February 23, 2017 at her residence.
Rev. Weldon Moak , Pastor of First Baptist Church of Broussard will conduct the funeral service.
Burial will take place in Abshire Cemetery.
Mrs. Broussard, a resident of Broussard, was the daughter of the late Armond Menard and the former Marie Nepheaux. Mrs. Broussard was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was always in constant communication with her family and friends. She came to know Christ thirteen years ago and was a member of First Baptist Church of Broussard. Her hobbies included cooking and baking, gardening and canning, especially okra and figs. She also enjoyed visiting with the elderly at the nursing homes. Mrs. Evelyn really enjoyed her freedom to do what she wanted.
She is survived by her children, Cindy Willie, Cheri Loftin, Timothy Miller, Kerry Miller, Robert Miller, and Johnny Miller and their spouses; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Felix and Wilis Menard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Paul Dennis Miller Jr., husband, Morris "Bruce" Broussard; and seven brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers were family and friends.

Birdie Uze Broussard

ERATH – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Birdie Uze Broussard, 76, was held at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Andre Metrejean officiating.  Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum.
 A native of Camperdown, LA and a resident of Erath, Mrs. Broussard died at 4:40PM on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.  She worked in the cafeteria at Dozier Elementary for over 25 years.  Mrs. Birdie’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Clayton P. Broussard, Sr. of Erath; two sons, Clayton Broussard, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Cecilia and Glen Plaisance and his wife Vicki of Indiana; a daughter, Sharon B. Clostio and her husband James “Buddy” of Erath; a brother, Jerry Uze and his wife Hope of Franklin; six grandchildren, Jenee Higginbotham, Coy Clostio, Tori Stout, Tanya Broussard, Sherry Plaisance, and Heather McCorkhill; and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zephrine and Ida Migues Uze.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clayton Broussard, Jr., James “Buddy” Clostio, Coy Clostio, Andrew Higginbotham, Seth Stout, and Gavin Taylor.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Glen PLaisance, Bradain Higginbotham, Brady Lee, and Lonnie Lee.

Louise “Mommie” Demouchet (96) a resident of Abbeville was called home Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Eastridge Nursing Home in Abbeville, LA.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her loving sister Eunice Delmore (Matthew) of Port Arthur, TX; her loving children, Theresa Boudreaux, Mary Goodie (late James) of Abbeville, LA; Michael Demouchet (Sherril) of Lake Charles, LA; Kibbie Pillette (Sharon), and Joseph Pillette (Joyce) of Abbeville, LA; Willis Demouchet of Little Rock, AR; 35 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Felix and Eva Duhon; brothers, Daniel, David, Dennis, Clovis, and Kibbie Duhon; a son and daughter, Oris and Martha Pillette.

Galluser's bat on fire this weekend for North Vermilion

He drove in 12 runs, and game-winning run on Sunday

LEROY - What better player to have at the plate with the game on the line, than the one who is swinging the hottest bat of the young season.
That was the case Sunday evening for Charlie Galluser, the No. 3 batter for North Vermilion.
The score was tied 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning against Loreauville.
Galluser, who already had two hits in the game, hit a 2-1 curve ball between first base and second base with two men on. His third hit scored Luke LeBlanc to give the Patriots the victory.
With the win, the Patriots improved to 4-0 .
As for Galluser, who is only able to be the designated hitter because of shoulder surgery, he did his job this weekend. In four games, he went 9-of-13 (.692 average) and knocked in an impressive 12 runs. He had four doubles and scored four runs.
On Sunday, both offenses were strong at the plate as the Patriots collected 11 hits and Loreauville nine
Loreauville captured the lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Loreauville.
In the top of the sixth inning, Loreauville tied things up at nine. An error scored one run for Loreauville.
The Patriots scored five runs in the third inning. The Patriots scored on a single by Evan Dubois, a stolen base by Luke Leblanc and two LHS errors.
Connor Dupuy, who hit a home run, earned the win for the Patriots. He threw the final two innings, allowing one run, one hit, and striking out two.
Bryce Landry started the game for the Patriots. He tossed three and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs, six hits, striking out four, and walking zero. Grant Dardar pitched middle relief and threw one inning, striking three and allowing two hits and a run.
Galluser and Leblanc each collected multiple hits for NV. Leblanc and Dupuy each drove in two runs to lead the Patriots.
