Miss Haley Luquette becomes Mrs. Tyler Paul Broussard

Miss Haley Brooke Luquette and Mr. Tyler Paul Broussard were united in holy matrimony during a nuptial mass on Friday, February 24, 2017, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Henry, Louisiana.
Fr. Manny Fernandez officiated the half past 6 o’clock ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Luquette of Erath. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Luquette, Sr. of Perry as well as Mrs. Lorraine Broussard and the late Harvey Broussard of Forked Island.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Broussard of Henry. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Broussard of Henry as well as Mrs. Cora Lange and the late J.C. Lange also of Henry.
Chelsie Domingues, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor, and Sydney Luquette, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Brittany Guidry, cousin of the bride; Kansas Istre, Katey Champagne, and Mattalyn Suire, all friends of the bride.
Justin Broussard, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen included Jesse Lange, cousin of the groom; Coy Clostio, Jason Romero, Ty Broussard, and Jake Dever, all friends of the groom.
Waylon Broussard and Grady Domingues, godchildren of the couple, served as ring bearers. Ushers were Hunter Luquette and Hayden Luquette, cousins of the bride, and Philip Domingues, brother-in-law of the bride.
Readings for the ceremony were read by Jarrod Lange, cousin of the groom, and Lorraine Broussard, grandmother of the bride.
Gift bearers were Abigail Lanclos, niece of the groom; Gavin Reed, Collin Reed, and Sydney Lange, all cousins of the groom. Ken Dugas, family friend of the bride served as Eucharistic Minister. Altar servers were Cole and Daniel Lange, cousins of the groom. Musicians for the ceremony were Laura Couvillion and Matthew Boucher.
A reception was held immediately following the ceremony at Blacks in Abbeville.
After returning from a honeymoon trip in Exumas, Bahamas the couple will reside in Henry.

June 15, 1934 ~ March 4, 2017

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. James Church honoring the life of Antoine Ullis Barras, 82 years, who died Saturday, March 4, 2017 at his home with his family by his side.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Emmanuel Fernandez officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Antoine Barras, Jr., Joseph Guidry, Seth Trahan, Bubba Boudreaux, Nicolas Barras and Dale Luquette. Honorary pallbearers will be Jude Broussard, Clougest Boudreaux, Jr. and Irby Roy.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Audrey Luquette Barras; son, Antoine Barras, Jr. and his wife Mary; daughters, Andrea Barras, Stephanie Boudreaux and her husband Clougest "CJ" and Darlene Broussard and her husband Jude; brothers, Roland Barras and Phillip Barras; sisters, Elina East, Isabelle Credeur, Mary LeBouef, Alberta Dore and Mona Leleux; ten grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Barras and the former Lorena Reaux; brothers, John LB Barras, Wade Francis Barras, Paul Demas Barras; grandchildren, Rory Barrett Boudreaux, Pierre Demas Guidry, and Jamie Christopher Prejean; great granddaughter, Olivia Ann Boudreaux; and greatgreat granddaughter, Elaine Langlinais.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 12:30 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM; Monday, March 6, 2017 from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM when the procession will depart for the church.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Acadian Hospice and Palliative Care for their care and support and a heartfelt thanks to his main caregiver Shelly Moran and also Mia Broussard for the care they provided to Mr. Antoine in his time of need.

Gueydan Honeybears win Class A state title

History was made by a girls high school basketball team from the small town of Gueydan on Friday night.
The Honeybears of Gueydan basketball team captured the Class A state title in impressive fashion, beating North Central, 53-40.
It was the first time the Honeybeats won a state basketball title.
Gueydan head coach Randall Bertrand, winded after the victory, said people in Hammond approached him, asking, “Where is Gueydan?”
“Well, now they know,” he said during the press conference after winning the game.
Gueydan point guard Ke’Ara Charles was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award despite only having eight points. But she also won it thanks to her assists, steals (3), rebounds (7) and points (8).
“She is very unselfish. She likes to give up the ball,” said Bertrand.
The Lady Canes were out rebounded by Gueydan (41-36). From the floor, the Honeybears shot 45 percent (22 of 29 ).
North Central shot a dismal 29 percent (17 of 59).
T’Nia Leger, who scored 18 on Tuesday, had 19 points to lead Gueydan.
Kendra Petry had a big game inside for Gueydan. The 5-11 sophomore scored a season-high 15 points.
Ashari Terry had nine and Cheyenne Lacomb made two points.

Annabelle Robinson Clement

October 24, 1925 ~ February 26, 2017

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Mission Chapel honoring the life of Annabelle Robinson Clement, 91 years old, who died on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital of Lafayette. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Paul Bienvenu officiating the services.
Annabelle was a graduate of Xavier Prep and Xavier University of New Orleans were she earned her undergraduate degree in French and English. She also received her graduate degree in guidance counseling. She did additional post graduate work at University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Annabelle worked for the Vermilion Parish School Board for 30 years at Herod High School as a teacher and guidance counselor and a parent involvement supervisor with the Follow-Through Program. In this capacity, she helped many people become teachers and aides by attending classes at ULL. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Ladies of Auxiliary 4th degree, and the Lions Club. Annabelle was on the board at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital and the Council on Aging for Vermilion Parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte and her husband, Snowden I. McKinnon, Jr. of Baton Rouge; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and her godchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clement; her parents, Anderson Robinson and the former Hattie LaPointe; and her brother, Junior Stroud.
The family would like to thank the staff of Acadian Ambulance, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Lafayette General Medical Center, and Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital of Lafayette. They also want to thank her neighbors, caregivers, family, and friends for their care.

Hebron James “Jim” Lacour, Jr.

ABBEVILLE – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Hebron James “Jim” Lacour, Jr., 89, were held at 11:00AM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Manny Fernandez officiating.  Interment followed at St. Alphonse Catholic Cemetery.
A native of Dayton, TX and a resident of Mouton Cove, Mr. Lacour proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.  He owned J & L Trailer park for over 45 years. Mr. Jim was known for his enjoyment of working cattle; gardening; and giving what he grew to his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons, Carroll Lacour and his wife Gina of Mouton Cove and Donald Lacour, Sr. and his wife DeWana of Mouton Cove; two sisters, Stella L. Lequeux of Abbeville and Myrtis L. Toups of Perry; four grandchildren, Donald Lacour, Jr., James Lacour, Doug Lacour, and Shawn Lacour; and four great grandchildren, Bret Lacour, Lexie Lacour, Shay Lacour, and Morgan Lacour.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laudry Duhon Lacour; his parents, Hebron Lacour, Sr. and Mary Luquette Lacour; and three sisters, Mabel Primeaux, Auriline Toups, and Ruby Lacour.
Serving as pallbearers were members of his family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Walter Chauvin and the former Delta Landry; husband, Joseph Harrington, Jr.; brother, Ralph W. Chauvin, Jr.; and sister, Rose Chauvin Trahan.

Life Legacy

Anna Marie Campbell Bolden was born on November 14, 1950, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Rudolph Campbell, Sr. and Vernice Joiner Campbell. Prophetess Anna Bolden and her husband, Apostle Pastor Donnie Bolden Sr. are the Pastors of Lighthouse for Jesus Ministries, Inc. in Abbeville, Louisiana. She was called to the ministry in 1972 and has been a faithful and obedient Mother in Israel as well as a prophet to the nations until the Lord called her home on Tuesday, February 28, 2017.
She is preceded in death by her father, Rudolph Campbell, Sr. and her mother Vernice Joiner Campbell; one sister, Shirley Rockette; three brothers, Oris Jones, Rudolph Campbell, Jr., and Youmeller Campbell; two grandsons: Kenneth Broussard III and Breton Pryor.
She leaves to celebrate her legacy, her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Pastor Donnie Bolden, Sr; three sons: Bobby Bufford of Baton Rouge, LA, Donnie (Cheryl) Bolden, Jr. and Jeremiah (Tonia) Bolden; one daughter Darriet Bolden, all of Abbeville, Louisiana; fourteen grandchildren: Elijah (Brandice), Soleta, Ashia (George) Roman, Eden, Marshall, Trevail, Samorae, Javen, Lorenza, Breanna, Jamal, Trevail, Harlow, Laithan; two great-grandchildren: Kia and Anna; five brothers: Larry (Delores) Campbell, Calvin Campbell, Lee Arthur (Rosie) Campbell; J.L. (Lula) Campbell; Allen Ray (Faye) Campbell; three sisters: Mattie (Samuel) McGinnis, Bernice (Calvin) Broussard, and Trula Campbell; four god-children: Carlise Williams, Joshua Campbell, Phoebe Green, Ardawna Green, and Jitarria Gilliam; and an innumerable host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and her beloved members of the Lighthouse for Jesus Church family that she birth in the Spirit; as well as those in the United States and around the world who have been touched by her ministry and her life.

Abbeville - Funeral services for John “Skip” Ryder, 60, will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at David Funeral Home Chapel of Abbeville with Pastor Randy Dugas officiating. Interment will follow at Gueydan Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Abbeville on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 8:00 AM until time of services.
A native of Indian Bayou and a resident of Rayne, Mr. Ryder passed away at 3:10 PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family, but Mr. Ryder fought to the very end.
He fought like “Iron Man”.
Harry, known as “Skip” by many was one of the strongest, compassionate, loving, and caring men you could have ever known. He was a simple man that never met a stranger. If you met him, you loved him, as he was a friend to all. He enjoyed life to the fullest and never looked back. He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Do not mourn him but instead celebrate life as he did.
“We are truly blessed to have loved a man like him. Fly high like an eagle Harry. We love you and will miss you dearly.”
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jody Hebert Ryder; three sons, Dr. Kelly Ryder and his wife Cenia of Baton Rouge, Justin Ryder and his wife Cegie of New Iberia, and Colt Ryder of Delcambre; a step son, Shane Frederick and his wife Sheila of Abbeville; three step daughters, Shannon Gary and her husband Jereme Gary, Jamie Frederick and her husband Quentin, and Megan Rougeaux and her husband Domminic, all of Indian Bayou; four sisters, Jackie Broussard of Kaplan, Lucinda Mire of Youngsville, Shernel Broussard of Forked Island and Roxie Broussard also of Forked Island; and eight grandchildren, Auriella Guidry, Addyson Accord, Kayla Gary, Kaden Gary, Jannah Hawkins, Davanna Hawkins, Ja’Veon Hawkins, and Jayden Savoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Theresa Marceaux Ryder; and two brothers, Ricky and C.J. Ryder.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Ryder, Justin Ryder, Colt Ryder, Nick Ryder, Chris Newan, and Lais Ryder.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Ryder, P.J. Townley, Jenice Broussard, and Domminic Rougeaux.
